The glow is growing for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights that takes place Nov. 9. The Hindu American Foundation said that the U.S. House of Representatives has passed a historic resolution to recognize the religious and historical significance of the festival of Diwali.
“We’d like Diwali to be recognized on the calendars that are printed across the country, and make schools aware that students may have something to do on that day that is spiritual or religious,” they said.
Hindus light lamps symbolize the victory of truth over darkness, the “dispelling of the ignorance that blinds us from reality and truth and God,” they added.
