Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) is in the process of launching the first of its new micro-satellites weighing less than 100 kgs.
“The first micro-satellite of ISRO called the PWSat with a payload of 5 to 6 kgs and weighing less than 100 kgs is under development and will be launched soon”, said S K Sharma, the Group Director, Project Planning Group at the Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad.Micro-satellites fall into the 10-100 kgs category and are largely aimed at conducting smaller experiments in space. These satellites also bring down the cost of conducting such experiments.
In the 1980s, ISRO had launched several micro-satellites in the Rohini and SROSS series.
