Software as a service (SaaS) :-
These are on-demand end-user software applications like Google Apps, Salesforce.com’s CRM and business management services etc.
Example: Google Apps (Google Docs), SalesForce.com are among the providers of this kind of cloud computing.
Platform as a service (PaaS) : –
PaaS provides the infrastructure needed to run applications over the Internet, It is a way to rent computing hardware, operating systems, storage and network capacity over the Internet to run existing applications or developing and testing new ones.
PaaS is an outgrowth of Software as a Service (SaaS).
Example: Google App Engine, Microsoft’s Windows Azure platform, Amazon EC2 (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud ) , etc are among the providers of this kind of cloud computing.
Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) :-
IaaS is a model where an organization outsources its IT infrastructure to companies who can manage them through one management interface ( That is, IT infrastructure platform as a service). The benefits include cost savings, and scalability. Infrastructure as a Service is also referred to as Hardware as a Service (HaaS).
Example: Amazon Web Services, Rackspace Cloud, GoGrid , etc are among the providers of this kind of cloud computing.
A simple definition is useful. But not too simple – if we are being picky 🙂
Storage as a Service (STaaS is increasing). Also, this list assumes all cloud is public. Private and hybrid cloud is increasingly important. The categories listed here do apply, but IaaS is most prevalent in private cloud.
