Should I use WPA or WPA2 encryption on my home Wi-Fi network?

Enable your router’s encryption to protect your wireless network. Enabling encryption will prevent others from accessing your wireless network. Use the strongest encryption that is compatible with your network.

If your router is compatible with WPA2 encryption, WPA2 should be your first choice.

WEP
Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP is not recommended, an older security method that is available to support older devices)
WPA
Wi-Fi Protected Access
WPA2
Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 with Pre-Shared Key, standard
encryption with the AES encryption type

Use WPA or WPA2 if at all possible. WEP is not recommended, it should be used if neither of the WPA encryption can be used.

WPA or WPA2 encryption standards are more secure.
