Microsoft Outlook – Phishing Attack

Have you ever popped up with phishing e-mail in your Microsoft outlook inbox that attempts to steal login and password ? Beware,
Trend Micro warns phishing attackers are targeting Microsoft Outlook Users. Outlook user will receive phishing email that will ask the user to re-configure their Microsoft Outlook, upon clicking the link control will lead to a phishing website. Phishing is a form of identity theft.

Phishing is a form of Internet fraud that aims to steal valuable information such as credit cards, social security numbers, user IDs and passwords. Phishing Attack on Microsoft Outlook will get the total access the affected user’s account (steal critical information, read emails, get hold of personal address book,etc )

Phishing website will ask for the following details

  • Incoming mail server (POP3)
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
  • Account Name
  • Account Password

Getting hold of above information will give phisher total access the affected user’s account.
