Amazon.com the web’s biggest retailer’s Web site was down for two hours today (Friday).
In a post on an Amazon discussion forum for sellers— titled “Amazon Un-Planned Event (06/06)” says “We are currently investigating an issue that has impacted the availability of the Amazon.com Web site. Engineers are actively engaged in resolving this issue, and we will provide an update once the issue is resolved. We appreciate your patience during this time.”
According to New York Times, outages among major Web companies like this are rare nowadays. Back in 1999, eBay went down for 22 hours, costing it millions in revenue.
News.com’s report estimated that Amazon loses $31,000 for every minute it’s unavailable, a 90-minute outage would add up to “merely” $2,790,000.
