Olympic torch put out in Paris

It turned to be a rough day for the Olympic torch in Paris on Monday. Hundreds of demonstrators who gathered at the Eiffel Tower, PARIS, France who were able to put the torch out as it made its way through the French captal.

“Boycott Chinese goods” and “Save Tibet” read banners held by demonstrators.

“We are doing our best but it will take the world to put pressure on China to help bring democracy and human rights to Tibet,” said Phurbu Dolker, a 21-year-old Tibetan refugee.

Indian entertainment industry to grow 16.7 per cent a year

Indian entertainment and media (E&M) industry will touch $27 billion by 2011 at an annual growth rate of 16.7 %.

According to the report by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (FICCI) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Indian Entertainment industry will grow faster than its counterparts in Brazil, Russia and China (BRIC countries)

BRICs economies, Brazil, Russia, India and China( BRIC ) could become larger economy by 2050, according to Goldman Sachs research report.

Russia - 8.3 %

India - 16.7 %

Emerging markets to spend $1trillion on IT - Gartner

Emerging regions such as Asia/Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa will continues to rise and generate IT spending of $1.1trillion in 2008, according to Gartner

Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC Economies) will lead this growth, according to Gartner, and spending in those four states will make up a third of all developing world IT spend.

The Gartner said that these emerging regions will generate IT spending of $1,1 trillion in 2008, which will grow to $1,3 trillion in 2011, becoming a major force for IT growth worldwide.

Emerging markets helps Coca-Cola growth

Coca-Cola’s quarterly sales in North American restaurants and other food service outlets declined 3 % due to economic pressures and recession fears.

But, Coke had seen its highest growth since 1998, with strong growth in emerging markets including (BRIC Countries )China, India, Russia and Brazil.

Coca Cola has reported an impressive 18 % increase in sales volume in India during the fourth quarter ended December, 2007.

Double-digit unit case volume growth in key emerging markets, including China, India, Brazil, Turkey, Southern Eurasia, and the Middle East continued to drive the results for the quarter.
