Apple Pay is a mobile payment system that allows users to buy things without exposing credit card numbers. Apple Pay replaces the need for a physical wallet (debit or credit card) when making a transaction.
Basically, credit card numbers will be stored in your device’s secure wallet (Apple iPhone, iWatch etc.) and you can buy items simply holding the device at the checkout counter.
To add a new card on to your iPhone, take a picture of your card using your camera, after Apple verifies, your card will be accessible through Passbook app. You can also manually type the card number into Passbook app.
How Apple Pay works ?
When you hover your phone over device at the checkout counter, Apple pay uses Near-Field communication (NFC) to communicate between your iPhone 6 and the reader at the checkout register.
When you use Apple pay, your actual credit or debit card numbers will not be transmitted between your phone and the payment processor.
When you add your card to Passbook App, a unique encrypted Device Account Number is assigned and securely stored in a dedicated chip on your iPhone. When you make a purchase, only your Device Account Number and unique transaction-specific security code will be used to process your payment (credit or debit card numbers are not transmitted to process your payment). Moreover, these numbers will not be stored on Apple servers.
How Do I use Apple Pay ?
To pay, simply hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID at the checkout register. A vibration or beep on your phone will let you know that your purchase was successful.
To use Apple Pay, your credit or debit card must be issued by the participating banks. Add your credit or debit card to Passbook app and look for the below icon at checkout.
