Intel creates Numonyx, flash memory company

Intel and STMicroelectronics NV unveiled a new independent semiconductor company “Numonyx” that will develop and manufacture flash-memory products.

Numonyx was formed from the flash memory businesses of Intel Corp. and STMicroelectronics, which will produce NOR and NAND flash microprocessors used in popular devices such as MP3 players, digital cameras and cell phones.

Airtel launches new web portal with Google - airtellive.com

Indian telecom service provider Airtel has announced the launch of an all-in-one Internet portal called Airtel Live .

airtellive.com, is powered by Airtel broadband and Google. Both Google and Airtel Broadband will co-brand and power the services offered by the portal.

This initiative is said to mark the first time a telecommunications firm in India has made Google products officially available on its portal.

Airtel has signed up a partnership deal with some of the content leaders such as shaadi.com, 24×7guru, naukri.com and many others.

Apple’s 3G iPhone is coming this Summer

A Bank of America analyst is predicting that the 3G iPhone will be a reality by the summer, according to reports.

Both Apple and AT&T, its exclusive carrier partner in the U.S., have said a higher-speed version of the popular device is coming, but they haven’t set a date. According to a report by the Bank of America, authored by analyst Scott Craig the much-awaited iPhone with 3G is coming in May.

Apple said it expects to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008, which some analysts speculated was an optimistic number.

Neo launches mini sub-20K laptops

Philippine PC manufacturer Neo and multinational computer processor maker Intel have jointly launched a new 16,999-peso ($406) mini laptop.

It weighs 0.66 kilograms (1.45 pounds) and is the size of a schoolchild’s lunchbox but will have the memory capacity and usual features of a standard basic laptop.

The Neo Explore is a “ruggedized and shock-proof” laptop with a keyboard that will not be damaged by spillages of liquids, said Neo spokeswoman Mariel Que.

Though the Explore is primarily designed for primary school children here, it can also be used by first-time PC users for word-processing and Internet access.
