India’s Sania Mirza entered the second round of the 2007 US Open tennis championship by defeating unseeded Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-1.
She beat five players ranked in the Top 20 in the world in three weeks, during July and August, and finished in a tie for ninth in points in the US Open Series. She also reached her highest career singles ranking of No. 27.
Sania reached the second round in the 2006 Open and fourth in 2005, will face American Laura Granville in the second round.
