There is a new warning about the health dangers of cell phone use. The director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and UPMC Cancer Centers has issued the new advisory.

Other countries have recommended limits on exposure, and that in Canada, public health officials in Toronto have advised young people to limit cell phone use.

“Recently I have become aware of the growing body of literature linking long-term cell phone use to possible adverse health effects including cancer,” Dr. Ronald Herberman said in the memorandum.

The advisory suggests certain measures to limit exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted by the devices, such as shortening the length of conversations or keeping the phones away from the head by text messaging or using headsets or speaker phone options. It also recommends that children not use cell phones except in emergencies.

A child’s developing organs “are the most likely to be sensitive to any possible effects of exposure,” according to the document.

Signs Of a Heart Attack, Stroke and Cardiac Arrest

If you learn the signs of a heart attack and what steps to take, you can save a life–maybe your own.

A heart attack (also called myocardial infarction) is when part of the heart muscle is damaged or dies because it isn’t receiving oxygen. Oxygen is carried to the heart by the arteries (blood vessels). Most heart attacks are caused by a blockage in these arteries. Usually the blockage is caused by atherosclerosis, which is the buildup of fatty deposits (called plaque) inside the artery.

The American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute have launched a new “Act in Time” campaign to increase people’s awareness of heart attack and the importance, here is the signs of a heart attack.

How do I know if I’m having a heart attack?

  • Chest discomfort.
Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back. The discomfort can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain.
  • Discomfort in other areas of the upper body.
Can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath.
Often comes along with chest discomfort. But it also can occur before chest discomfort.
  • Other signs
May include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, or light-headedness.

Health Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids. They are essential to human health but body cannot make its own omega-3 fats, they must be taken in through the diet, or in supplement form. For this reason, omega-3 fatty acids must be obtained from food.

The fats are naturally found in oily cold water fish like tuna, salmon, and sardines. Vegetable sources include pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, and walnuts. Getting omega-3 fatty acids from food rather than from capsule supplements ( Omega3 fish oil )can be more beneficial, providing additional nutrients.
