Wal-Mart operates about 4,000 stores in the United States.

Wal-Mart currently operates close to 3,000 stores in 13 countries outside of the United States.

In 2007 Wal-Mart pulled out of Germany, South Korea because of failure in these 2 countries.

In 2008 Wal-Mart to open stores in India in partnered with Bharathi group. It is a 50:50 joint venture for cash-and-carry and wholesale business called Bharti - Wal-Mart (P) Ltd. Bharti Wal-Mart would open 15 cash-and-carry or wholesale stores in Indian by 2014 with the first one to come up by end-2008.

International growth for Wal-Mart is now more crucial than ever.
